Samsung Enters Smart Glasses Race to Challenge Meta’s Dominance
Samsung has confirmed the development of its first AI-powered smart glasses, codenamed Project HAEAN, with an expected launch in 2026. The device will feature a built-in camera at eye level, connected to a smartphone for AI processing. Executive Vice President Jay Kim revealed the details at Mobile World Congress, emphasizing the glasses' ability to interpret visual data and deliver contextual responses.
Initially planned as a display-free product, recent reports suggest Samsung may incorporate a built-in screen—a strategic pivot to compete with Meta's Ray-Ban glasses, which currently control 82% of the market. The company has been collaborating with Qualcomm and Google since 2023 on the project.
This move signals Samsung's ambition to carve a niche in the wearable AI space, leveraging its smartphone ecosystem. The decision to potentially include a display reflects evolving consumer expectations for standalone functionality in smart glasses.
